Welcome to the Center for Neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Center for Neuroscience provides administrative and programmatic support for neuroscience in the 12 departments, 4 colleges, and 2 centers that are homes for neuroscientists on the Madison campus. Activities supported by the Center include a campus-wide lecture series, graduate education conducted through the Neuroscience Training Program, undergraduate seminars in neuroscience for students in biology and related disciplines, and symposia. The Center plays a major role in coordination of interdepartmental recruitment of new faculty, and seeks to promote expansion of neuroscience research into new areas on the Madison campus. The research programs of the more than 170 neuroscientists on the Madison campus are advancing understanding of the nervous system across levels ranging from molecular mechanisms to human behavior, and include major contemporary thematic areas such as learning and memory, development, stem cells, sensory and motor systems, sleep and consciousness, cognition and affect, appetitive behaviors, plasticity, and neurobiology of disease. Translational research is a major focus of neuroscience on the Madison campus, and includes investigators in both basic and clinical departments.
